Sooo ... I dropped by the supermarket last night to restock on some essentials, and came across this:
Attachment Deleted Limited Edition Pepperidge Farm Swirl French Toast.
I personally like this bread line. I've tried pretty much all of them - Strawberry, Cinnamon, Banana Bread, Cranberry, Pumpkin Spice, Raisin ... The list goes on. They're all pretty good, and I like them toasted with a bit of margarine or butter.
The French Toast installment is marketed as "Thick Slice". These breads are usually presented in pretty thin slices (which make buttering them a task in itself sometimes), so that was a plus. They're about a third bigger than their counterparts, and each slice contains 110 calories and 2 grams of fat.
When I opened the bag, I was immediately hit with a strong maple syrup aroma. This looked promising:

Straight out out of the bag, it looks like the other swirl breads do, albeit a little thicker. Oddly enough, the swirl on this one is a bit lacking. Maybe I got an off batch, or maybe this flavor just has a small one. We can't all be well endowed, right? I also noticed little "blobs" of what looked like syrup treasures. Off to the toaster it went.

Toasted and buttered, I took a bite. I was surprised that although this product smells strongly of maple syrup, it doesn't taste strongly of syrup. But the flavor was there, subtle and nice. Nowhere near a French Toast Stick, but acceptable if you wanted a hint of French Toast flavor.
It was a bit on the dry side, which might have been something Pepperidge Farm didn't expect to encounter when it decided to make this one a "Thick Slice". Enough butter counteracted the dryness, to where it was a pleasant texture and bite. Because, butter.
I think I prefer some of the other flavors, but this one wasn't bad. I gave it a 3 out of 5. I'll definitely finish the loaf.
