Most of you may know that my oldest has a peanut allergy. He was diagnosed at around 1.5, and I was devastated. I educated myself and my family, armed my home and purse with EpiPens, and we were fine.
Peanut and peanut butter products have been banned in our household, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss them. I DO. Oh God, I do. This past Halloween, I plucked all of the Reese's from Logan's stash and ate them in secret during his nap time. It was fucking heavenly. I probably brushed my teeth for fifteen minutes afterwards, but it was so worth it.
Sun Cups are far from new, but I thought it would be nice to give them a try. I used Logan and his Reese's-less existence as an excuse, but in reality, I was just dying for the taste of peanut butter.
Sun Cups apparently come in four flavors (ooh, mint?!), but our supermarket only carried Milk Chocolate.

At this point, I'm legitimately excited. I had to keep myself from eating them by myself at one point, especially since he had no idea that I had bought them in the first place. I gave myself a pat on the back for that one. Such a good mom, gosh.
There are 2 cups per pack, at 240 calories and 16 grams of fat (eek!) for both.
Upon opening them, they look like your usual peanut butter cups. At this point, I'm SO EXCITED.

I take a bite, and I'm so disappointed. I really, really wanted to like these, and I really wanted to find a yummy peanut butter alternative treat for DS1.

The cups are dense, much denser than, say, a Reese's. I'm a huge fan of Sun Butter, and I was expecting that same flavor in the filling. Nope. The filling is thick and kind of tasteless, with an aftertaste of seeds. Every so often, my teeth meet some grit - no idea what that is. The chocolate doesn't make up for the filling, and the entire thing is kind of waxy and tasteless. I didn't finish it.
I know that no alternative is going to match a Reese's, but I was at least expecting these to be enjoyable. Maybe the other flavors are better ... I won't give up hope. If any of you ladies know of any delicious PB alternative snacks, let me know!
I give these a 1 out of 5.
