and why this is a HUGE deal.
The FBI claims they need Apple's help unlocking an iPhone belonging to one of the terrorists in the San Bernardino shooting late last year in which 14 people were killed and 22 people were seriously injured. Apple claims the FBI already has the tools they need to unlock that specific phone and will assist if needed but only for that phone. However, the FBI says they need a tool to unlock every phone, in the world. So they are now going to court.
Apple has released that they do not feel comfortable handing over any such tool even if they did have one. Its a matter of security for all their users and are worried it could fall into the wrong hands.
The FBI says they will not use it for anything other than phones used in criminal investigations.
Many tech bloggers side with Apple, Steve Wozniak sides with Apple and says that not only would Steve Jobs not give up information like this he believes the government is lying and using the terrorist attack as a way to play on the public's fear and have them go against Apple, he doesnt respect any of the answers being given by the government or FBI having to do with this matter.
Bill Gates however sides with the FBI and thinks that information should be handed over, he says he would hand over that information if one of his phones were called into question.
People are saying Apple sides with terrorism.
What are your thoughts? I personally side with Apple on this one, this is a matter of our civil liberty and security. A Benjamin Franklin quote comes to mind, I'm paraphrasing but its definitely fitting, Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
